Let's run away?

Our lives had brutally changed in the past three weeks. We had been posted to a God forsaken place in the East. It had all been painstaking to travel, then locate our new haven but setting up our house was a dream come true. We had been married for three months and 17 days to be exact and placing the “Mannat Amteshwar Sandhu” board on the entrance proved everything worth the effort. My green apple sanitizer’s fragrance desperately tried to mask the stench of our freshly whitewashed MES accommodation. We spent the whole day dealing with his trophies, cut glass crockery, curtains, kitchen counter repairs and tracking his beloved Apache. The night was dark and the moon was the only light when I went for the assemblage of my library.  I couldn’t help but marvel at the biblical books of medicine and my astounding  collection of novels, that I had hoarded all my life, look like relics in the museum. Amteshwar called out for me and I peeked at him with pride and contentment thr...

COLORS OF BLACK AND WHITE

The market was crowded. I was struggling to find a way on the footpath, and my eyes took a pause on a pair of Jhumka. I had no idea what was that shape called, it was round and looked like she was wearing a lehenga and forcing me to make those slo-mo videos. I swear there is no perfect video unless you shoot a million of them. Anyway, so I went to the vendor and we negotiated to a price where I bought the pair for my lady love. I was away during Holi and we were meeting later that day. So, I picked up those Jhumkas, and I went along. Holi was not my thing – I mean getting dirty just to clean yourself over the next few days did not make sense to me. And she was crazy about the color. So naturally, when I arrived at her house, I was looking at an abstract art. She was dressed in one color, and her skin was a mixture of colors, one cheek pink, one purple. I cried my heart out laughing and she was so embarrassed. After a while of she making faces, we finally went out for a walk. Discussing the extras that happened while I was gone. Butterflies are common. I felt Harpsichord and Harmoniums like I stuck upon a Ghazal. So, the usual – coffee, a bite to eat and walking her back home. She wanted me to stay. She grabbed me like a Koala bear and I literally just stood there like a piece of wood. She looked up to me and started making faces again. I pulled out the box of Jhumka I bought for her earlier that day and I gave it to her. I whispered in her ear – “Did I tell you how beautiful you look in your suit today?” I sat in my car and as I pulled off, she stood there, looking at the Jhumkas I got her, smiling at the words I whispered in her ear. She stood there.
